1.000.000 French workers on the streets
The streets of cities throughout France inundated on 27 of May 2010 today by protesters react to government reforms to increase the limits of the age of retirement over sixty years now. One million French workers were on the streets of French cities, according to estimates by the French trade unions.
The trade union leaders said that the demonstrations are only the first step in a long battle with which to defend the age of retirement.
"Only an indication of the power in the streets can defend the limit of sixty years of retirement and social conditions in which Nicolas Sarkozy attacked methodically" said Bernard Tibbaut, General Secretary of CGT.
A delegation of EKA composed of the Vice president Stathis Trachanatzis and the Resp of International Relations Dpt. Christina Theochari, participated in the manifestation of the French trade unions on the 27th of May 2010. The delegation was invited by the CGT Ile-de-France. The massing and the demonstration against the intention of the French government to change the social security system and to confine public expenditure, was organized by the seven French trade unions organizations: CGT, CFDT, FO, UNSA, Solidaires, FSU, CFTC.
EKA delegation during its stay in Paris had also a meeting with Jean Michel Joubier, Deputy Secretary of International Relations of CGT. In this meeting participated also Benoit Quilici the Resp. of International Relations of CGT Ile-de-France.
