Update of the English Trade Unions
22 - 23 March 2012, LONDON
A delegation of EKA, consisting of Giota Bisila, Member of the Executive Committee of EKA and Christina Theochari, Head of the International Relations Department, visited London on the 22 and 23 of March 2012 at the invitation of SERTUC and GLATUC.
The delegation informed the International Relations Committee of SERTUC during a special meeting under the title: ”Greece – The struggle against austerity”, about the problems that the Greek workers face, about the unemployment and the situation in our country related to labor rights, living and working conditions after the implementation of the austerity measures.
The members of the Committee expressed their solidarity to the Greek workers and to the Greek people suffering, they informed about the participation of the U.K. Labor Unions at the mobilizations that took place during the recent period in the UK regarding the situation in Greece, and they expressed their fears that similar austerity measures are imminent in their country due to the general neo-liberal policy pursued by the E.U. Governments at this stage.
The delegation met also the representatives of the PCS Culture, Media and Sport Occupational Association Union, and participated in a meeting for the presentation of a research carried out by of SERTUC regarding women’s participation in Union activities.
